How we survived a tornado at Crab Orchard Camp Ground

It was a nice day at the camp ground on Sunday. We spent the day on the beach, Susan, Kelli, Mike, Ron, Andrea, Katy,Taylor, and Zachary. We rode our Seadoos in the sun . It was getting around 4:00 so we headed to the camper. The sky was looking bad like it was going to rain so we got everything in the camper. We were watching the news and there was a tornado warning for Carbondale and other parts in the Southern county. Grandma Marge called Ron at 6:00 to tell him the storm was coming for us. Andrea’s Dad Mark was calling her and keeping her updated on the storm also. Ron and Mike were saying it will miss us we will just have a thunder storm, were they wrong or what? Susan and Andrea knew better, they wanted to be safe than sorry, so they took the kids, Kelli, Katy, Taylor, and Zach to the John A. Logan College to take shelter. Right when we were leaving we saw the state troopers telling people they want to evacuate the camp ground. People were trying to push in the shower houses to take shelter! The tent campers were out of there! We were turned to go to John A. Logan College and we looked behind us and we saw a funnel cloud! SCARY!! We ran inside to the college, and some people from the camp ground were already there taking shelter with their dogs, while ours were with Ron and Mike at the Camper. The kids were scared while we stay there for a hour. Andrea called Ron and ask him if he was doing ok and he said, “I’ve blown into the lake and a catfish ate my eyeballs.” hahahah!………! What really happened is the wind shook the campers really hard thats all! Then a Security guy told us the first storm was over, but there is another one coming a couple hours away just as bad as the first one! So we went back to the camper and seen if Mike and Ron survived. They did and everybody and everything was safe! It was raining the rest of the night and the other tornado never came!!☺ We all SURVIVED!!!!!!!!!

Propellor Point at Crab Orchard

Published by Ron Kosydor under Fishing, General

Propellor Point on the Crab Orchard Lake near Carbondale, Illinois claims another propellor to the deep six. More like the deep 2 feet when my 50 horse merc bounced on the bottom. What turned out to be a simple quick boat cruise to show my dad and his buddy where the Crappie hang out ended in a destroyed prop and half of my bottom keg missing. Oh, I think you hit a log they said—I wish it was a log, more like a iron kettle laying on the bottom. I had the camo Triton at full speed when I noticed that I was kinda close to the buoys marked “underwater obstructions”. I cut the wheel to swing wide of the point only to hear the mercury clank the bottom and it was too late. I shut her down and coasted to a stop, restarted the engine and took off again for the boat dock. The Triton seemed to move ok through the water and I was glad she was moving OK. When we pulled the boat from the water is when it became clear I was getting out the wallet for a new prop. I knew the lake was low from the no-rain summer, but its too late now.

Ron Kosydor Launches The Kosydor Adventures

Published by admin under Computers, Technology, News, General

The site finally has a new look and feel. Let me know what you think. Cousin Mike and I talked several times about getting this site more functional for our adventures and a place to archive tons of old photos. Ok guys get your photos ready.

Jalbum is up and running and WordPress is blogging.

For my relatives and friends info—I currently operate web hosting services for my own projects on two different dedicated servers. One of my boxes is in Downtown Chicago located at Lakeside Technology Center, the same building in which Equinix is located. Steadfast Networks is keeping me connected there. My real valuable sites (money making) e-commerce sites are located on this box.
More long haul fiber goes through Chicago than any other city in the United States. Most of the fiber connecting the East and West coasts of the United States goes through Chicago, giving Chicago ample network capacity as well as routes that offer low latency to both the East and West coasts.

The connection speeds coming out of downtown Chicago is awesome for my sites there.

My second box is in Downtown New York and the monthly lease payment goes to Interserver. Check out their pipelines around New York City in the following pic. These guys are also wired into the big boys and a hub for the global crossing lines.

These boxes aren’t cheap but I have been running with the big boys myself the last couple of years. You gotta pay if you wanna play. The preferred hosting software for me is Cpanel and WebHost Manager. I can launch a new website within minutes on either one of these dedicated server boxes. I also have “redundancy” back up in case New York or Chicago gets blowed up by our wacko friends across the oceans.

The hot set-up for me is the Raid Hardware Packages. I like the peace of mind knowing if there is a hardware crash that my data is mirrored.

RAID is a way of combining multiple disk drives into a single entity to improve performance and/or reliability. There are a variety of different types and implementations of RAID, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, by putting a copy of the same data on two disks (called disk mirroring, or RAID level 1), read performance can be improved by reading alternately from each disk in the mirror. On average, each disk is less busy, as it is handling only 1/2 the reads (for two disks), or 1/3 (for three disks), etc. In addition, a mirror can improve reliability: if one disk fails, the other disk(s) have a copy of the data. Different ways of combining the disks into one, referred to as RAID levels, can provide greater storage efficiency than simple mirroring, or can alter latency (access-time) performance, or throughput (transfer rate) performance, for reading or writing, while still retaining redundancy that is useful for guarding against failures.

Did you get all that??
